~you've got a friend

Sept 2017
It has been quite a journey of prayers, fasting, patience and miracles. So many amazing friends gave strength, encouragement and well wishes after my many surgeries!
Carlene and I have been friends for over 17 years
(since we first moved to Alpine in 1999)!
She has been with me through thick and thin!
Jeanette brought over a delicious dinner and
we caught up on our lives for a couple hours.Mary gave me a wonderful, relaxing massage with her magic oils (brought treats loaded with healthy ingredients)!Siena~ my forever life saver
(Hill Cumorah 2011 and beyond)!

After The Accident

After Billy arrived at the accident we went back to the University and sat in on his presentation
(did I mention he is working on his PhD?). It is a small class and it was interesting when he
presented the idea of basic freedoms being life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, everyone’s
eyes got big. They couldn’t imagine such ideas. After his presentation we ate lunch on campus,
went downtown to the Embassy, then went and got Tod fitted for a suit at Max’s. After that we
ate at our favorite Thai restaurant for dinner and then went for a nice 1 ½ hour massage (at our favorite place downtown). Finished the night off shopping at MBK where we found some great
deals on some cute shoes and purses. We didn’t have a lot of time because it was closing time
so we got a crepe filled with bananas, ice cream and chocolate sauce for dessert. It was delicious.
We headed home and got there around 10 pm. We were exhausted and slept well that night!

Overhead - Cross Walk

The little old Lady should have used this Overhead Cross-Walk; but can you really blame her for taking the short cut? Take a look at all those stairs she would have had to climb (left click to enlarge picture). The streets in Thailand are the most bizarre, you will very rarely see street lights and even when you do, much of the time they are ignored. There is no way to get across the street other than these Overhead Cross-Walks. With my bad knees I have crossed an intersection a time or two, but I am a bit faster than this lady and I don't try to stop the traffic as I go ~ well, besides that one time (disclaimer for those that have crossed the street with me).

Bad Accident, Good Friends

Good and bad that the Schulthess' were here. Bad, of course, because they were on vacation and their first experience was to have an accident and can you imagine if they would have been badly hurt? I would have just died. But the good was that they kept me company and we laughed instead of ~if I would have been by myself~ cried. I am so grateful we all had our seatbelts on - that would have been a total bad scene had we not. I guess in the city (Bangkok) when we are in taxis and there are no seatbelts in the back seat I am assuming since everyone stops and goes so much that the drivers pay more attention. In the little town that we were traveling through, the driver must not think to ever worry about stopping in the middle of a road because probably not too many people don't use the overhead cross walk to get from one side of the street to the other (we were waiting for a little old lady to cross the street, she had just stepped onto the curb when I was hit and then my car hit the gal in front of me ~who would have hit the little old lady~ I wonder if the little old lady even knew what had happen because we stopped to let her cross the street - in the states this would be like attempting to cross State Street in Orem with no stop lights anywhere during rush hour - I kid you not).

My Poor Little Smashed Car

Yowzers!  I felt so bad for Tod as he was in the back seat and as I looked in my rear view mirror, and saw the semi fast approaching, I gasped a bit and Tod glanced around just as the truck hit us.  There's Billy's legs as he is reaching through the rubble rescuing our belongings.

The Car I Rammed Into~

I'm afraid that the front of our car still got the worst beating.
Fortunately no one was hurt!

The Big Mean Truck That Slammed Into Us

This is the mean truck that hit us.  He was oblivious that we were even stopped and just plowed into us; this in turn pushed us into the car in front of us! Squished!

Welcome to Thailand, Tod and Carlene!

FEB 2008
Our wonderful friends, Tod and Carlene from Alpine came for a 10 day visit to Thailand! Within the first 7 hours of their arrival we got in a car accident and totaled my car. The police were there in about 5 seconds - there was a station right on the corner of the accident. We had been on our way to the Floating Market, and didn't know it at the time, but we were way lost (I thought I could find it with no problem, but I was wrong). Billy was at the University and came to meet us. Unfortunately the English guy who offered his help told us we were on the correct road to the Floating Market; I told Billy this information so he went West but we were way down South about 45 minutes in the wrong direction. By the time he finally got to us most of the traumatic part was over. {{You can tell by Carlene and Tod's smiling faces that they were so excited to be in Thailand that they weren't going to let a little ole' accident get them down ... such troopers and good friends}}
