~Wonderful Christmastime 1979

HOLIDAY MEMORIES OF THE MATTHEWS FAMILY
Billy, Jamie
Mindy, Marcie, Willie, Robbie, Kenny and Timmy
Keeping our family Christmas blog faithfully throughout the years,
Recording our Christmas memories ~ the love, the joy, the good cheer.
When seventy years have come and gone won't it be a pleasure,
To have a look at years gone by through this special Christmas treasure!
~Our First Christmas as Mr & Mrs~
Our First Christmas Eve was spent at 'The Matthews' home (Bill and Dorothy). Tim (Billy's brother) and his wife, Jan with their 2 little boys, Tommy (almost 3) and Mikey (almost 1yr) were there along with Cindy (Billy's sister) and her husband, Danny Urban.  Cindy and Danny are expecting a baby in January and Bill and I are expecting a baby on May 5th!  Baba (Bill's mother - Mona Mae) and Grandma Harris (Dorothy's mother, Edna Viola) were also there - Grandpa Harris (David
Albert) is in the hospital.  Baba's husband, Floyd William Matthews, is deceased.
The whole family gave little Christmas Eve presentations.  It was very entertaining.
We let Tommy open one of his presents and Dad Matthews got to open his TV Atari game.
Tim (Billy's brother) and Billy spent a few hours figuring out and playing the game (in later
years Billy will beat Dale Murphy in an Atari Baseball - playoff)!  Billy and I live in a
little cottage in Lafayette, California but tonight we all spent the night at Bill and Dorothy's.
My adorable sister-in laws and fabulous mother-in-law
Jan, Jamie, Cindy and Dorothy
Christmas Day we got up around 8am and opened presents until around 2pm.  The tree had so many beautiful gifts under it and they covered the entire living room floor.  Everyone got exciting presents.  Billy and I got many fun gifts for our new baby-to-be!  It was all so thrilling.  We stayed all day and enjoyed everyone's company.  We wrote down some of our goals for the new year as well.
One of my gifts to Billy were the "12 Days of Christmas":
                                                               12 ~ Christmas Cookies
                                                               11 ~ Minute Back Rub
                                                               10 ~ Ballpoint Pens
                                                                 9 ~ Packs of Gum
                                                                 8 ~ Chocolate Santa's
                                                                 7 ~ Lollipops
                                                                 6 ~ Pack of Rootbeer
                                                                 5 ~ Helium Balloons

                                                                 1 ~ Christmas Book
I also got Billy a tie tac, nail clipper case and a tie tool.  He bought me a stuffed Teddy Bear, Estee Lauder perfume, $50 maternity gift certificate, TV Trays and tickets to "A Chorus Line"!
From my Mom (Bette Jo Davis Couch), we got a pen set, 2 gold necklaces, baby pillow and a bath hooded towel!  From my Dad ("Dub" Willard Arnold Couch) and Charlene we got matching sweaters and a baby blanket. From my Aunt Mattie and Uncle Eddie (RedEagle) we got sheets and a stuffed Lion.  From Bill and Dorothy we got a baby Moses Basket and baby T-shirts, pots and pans, $150 for furniture, black pants, shirt, sweater, gloves, oil container and a Maj Jong game.  We got a Backgammon set from Danny and Cindy.  Tim and Jan got us a beautiful baby car seat cover blanket. From Baba a necklace/earring set and a tie for Billy.  From Grandpa and Grandma Great (Harris) we received yummy food and fudge!  And from our landlords, Mr & Mrs Volmer, we received oranges, a baby pillow cover/sham and the "Magic Christmas Ornament" (a gift we treasure and have passed on to each one of our children when they [or their spouse] are pregnant with their first child).
Mikey and Tommy, Tim and Jan's baby boys - Little Cutie Patooties 👦👦
After all the Christmas festivities we came home, watched TV, talked and went to bed!
This was the perfect Christmas season!

You Are My Special Friend

~ ~ ~

Because you are my special friend my life means so much more.

You've brought more joy and blessings than I've ever felt before.

I'll spend a lifetime telling you with help from God above,

just how much you mean to me and how precious is our love.

~Family is Everything

I love you so~

There are many things in life that will bring
a person happiness.  For me, along
with my Testimony of Jesus Christ,
my most important and prized possession
is my family, who has brought me joy,
happiness and fulfilment.
I’m so thankful for my husband and my children and their respective spouses
and my grandchildren.  They are examples of righteous living and are
hard-working people who contribute to society each and every day!
I’m thankful for the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the knowledge that I have
of the love and help we can get from Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.
As we continue to be disciples of Christ;
being true to our beliefs, standing strong
in our testimony and sharing our love and conviction
of the Gospel with others, this is where true joy will be found.
Our family has shared many wonderful adventures
but the one that we enjoy the most is the continual
journey that we are on that will bring us closer to Christ
and take us back to live with our Heavenly Father.
